Azam FC began our CAF Confederation Cup group-stage campaign with a difficult result away in the Democratic Republic of Congo, falling 2–0 to AS Maniema Union this evening at Stade des Martyrs.
Despite controlling large periods of the match and maintaining strong possession, we were unable to convert our chances, while the home side took advantage of key moments. Maniema opened the scoring in the 43rd minute through Christian Balako, and added a second late in the 85th minute via Chadoma Ozome.
Our boys showed character, maintained composure, and pushed forward throughout the match, but the hosts’ defensive organization limited our clear opportunities on goal. This was a tough away fixture with a challenging atmosphere, but valuable lessons were learned as we continue our journey in the competition.
Head Coach Florent Ibenge and the entire technical bench remain focused on regrouping, correcting today’s shortcomings, and preparing strongly for our next match. The team is determined to bounce back and fight for qualification.
